Police treating Bayonet Head bushfire as suspicious, two people assisting with investigation
Albany detectives are speaking to two people in relation to a suspicious blaze that threatened homes in Bayonet Head, about 8km north of Albany, on Saturday.
Albany police officer-in-charge Sen. Sgt Carlos Correia said a male and a female are assisting detectives with their investigation into the bushfire, which triggered an emergency warning just before 8.30am.
It is believed the fire was sparked by a vehicle that was set alight in bushland.
The bushfire raged within 200m of homes as more than 10 firefighting crews fought the flames in the bushland near Stranmore Boulevard and Cullinan Terrace.
It took emergency services about two hours to control the blaze, with the emergency warning reduced to bushfire advice just before 10.30am.
The advice remains in place for people bordering Stranmore Boulevard and Ballindean Avenue in Bayonet Head.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services is urging people to remain vigilant in the area despite the reduced threat.
Police remain at the scene.
